Boiler Servicing

Why Should I Get My Boiler Serviced?

Throughout the summer we normally turn our central heating off and rely on our boilers for hot water only so, when is the right time to get your boiler serviced?

Depending on your type of boiler depends on what parts within your boiler are used. For example, if you have a combination boiler your heating components will not get used very much and the risk of failure therefore increases. Click the images below to see what type of boiler you have.

How Often Should I Get My Boiler Serviced

Your boiler should be serviced at least once a year to ensure it is running properly and safely.

The best time to get your boiler serviced is just before the heating is turned back on or just after you turn your heating off. It is not a good idea to wait until you turn your heating on when the cold snap comes as heating engineers will be inundated with work and you may have to wait awhile to get your boiler fixed.

What Are The Benefits Of A Boiler Service

Having your boiler checked on a regular basis ensures it works safely and efficiently. It also helps prevent build up of debris effecting the effectiveness. In January this year we were asked to look at two boilers in a hotel which were not heating the hot water or radiators properly. On initial inspection there was little to identify the issue until we carried out more specialist investigations.

When checking, it was found that little or no heat was being delivered from the boiler. Further investigations revealed that the heat exchanger on both boilers was blocked. Below are some pictures of the heat exchangers and the poor conditions that they were in.

The Result

Unfortunately, the heat exchangers were in such a poor state, replacements needed to be fitted. A very expensive exercise for the hotel!

Conclusion

Having a poorly maintained boiler creates an appliance that has poor efficiency so ultimately costs you more money in running costs. It may be low on your list of priorities but having your boiler serviced annually will save you money on energy as well as any replacement parts should it go wrong.
